Flossie Malavialle

Hugely talented, Flossie’s charismatic stage presence, gutsy guitar style, eclectic repertoire and Franglais patter never fail to entertain those lucky enough to hear her.

She taught English in a French School in the South of France for several years. This was until she decided to reverse the process and improve her English by teaching French in an English School in Stockton-on-Tees.

She came for a year in 2000, returned to France, but missed her new life so much she came back. Now, not only has her English improved, but it’s been greatly enhanced with the addition of endearing elements of both Geordie (h’away pet) and Yorkshire inflections (tha’ knows) - the outcome of ten years or more in the border country around Darlington.

Flossie had been singing for years in France before coming to England. She found it quite natural to turn up at the Darlington folk club one night for a bit of a sing, like. She didn’t realise then that this was going to be the beginning of a new life in England for her.

Her voice has been described as “tuneful as a lark and (with) a pureness of quality to stop you in your tracks”. Her songs range from folk favourites by Allan Taylor and Keiran Halpin to Edith Piaf’s No Regrets and La Vie en Rose and Jacques Brel’s Amsterdam and Ne me quitte pas. She also loves songs with what she calls “Va-vavoom” by such singers as Janis Joplin, Carole King, Bonnie Raitt and Kris Kristofferson.

Now re-located in her native country, her return to the festival scene is a delight for all.
