Geoff Lakeman

There’s little doubt that the name Lakeman is synonymous with the very best in English folk music thanks to the individual success in recent years of brothers Sean, Sam and Seth Lakeman, all of whom have appeared at Costa Festivals in recent years.

Eldest brother Sean appeared with Kathryn Roberts at our second festival in Spain in 2015, while Seth was with us for our first Portuguese festival in later that year and Sam completed the set with his wife Cara Dillon in Mallorca in 2016. The three brothers began playing as children in a family band with Geoff and their violinist mum, Joy.

It was inevitable, therefore, that we should complete the set by inviting their Dad, Geoff Lakeman, himself no slouch when it comes to folk music, to join us for what will be our 7th Costa del Folk in Portugal in October, 2107.

Geoff is a leading exponent of the rare Crane Duet concertina and performs self-written and West Country songs, together with the music of such names as Jimmy Rodgers, Richard Thompson and Randy Newman.

His smooth tenor vocals and unique concertina accompaniment have won him plaudits and fans over the years but it is only since retiring from a long career as a Fleet Street journalist that Geoff has really spread his wings musically.

A few years ago we saw the release of his debut album, “After All These Years”. With a stellar line up of musical family and friends it showcases his talents perfectly and illustrates the high regard and affection in which he is held.
