Hailed as the originators of British folk-rock music, Fairport Convention will be joining the line-up for the five-day Costa del Folk, the first-ever UK folk festival to be held on the Spanish Costa del Sol.

Apart from hosting their own, hugely-successful, annual Cropredy event, this will be Fairport’s only festival appearance in 2014.

Established 45 years ago, the band has won a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted Fairport’s ground breaking album Liege & Lief  ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’.

Fairport Convention features Simon Nicol on guitar and lead vocals, Dave Pegg on bass and backing vocals, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki and lead vocals, Ric Sanders on violin and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.

“We’re delighted to have persuaded one of the biggest names in British folk music to join us for the Costa del Folk” said Enjoy Travel’s Festival Director Geoff Sargieson.

“This will be the first time a traditional British folk festival has been held overseas,” he added, “But it’s also unique in that good weather is virtually guaranteed so festival-goers will be able to ditch the willies, ban the brolly and forget the word Portaloo.”

“What also makes it special is that artists and festival-goers alike will all be able to choose between a 4* hotel or adjoining self-catering accommodation on the site.

The line-up for the Costa del Folk, to be held from March 14th to 19th in the Costa del Sol resort of Benalmadena, features over 20 of the top names in British folk music, including Show of Hands, Demon Barbers,Tom McConville Band and The Mighty Doonans.
