We are delighted to announce that folk singer, songwriter and virtuoso fiddle player Seth Lakeman will be returning to Costa del Folk in Ibiza April 2019

He’s been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in competition with Coldplay and Kasabian, had two singles and an album in the pop charts, and won Album of the Year and Singer of the Year awards at the BBC Folk Awards.

Music has always been part of Sean’s life; his parents, Geoff and Joy Lakeman, performed as a folk duo in the 1970’s and beyond, later as a touring band with Seth and his older brothers Sean and Sam.

The three brothers went on to become part of the much acclaimed folk band, Equation, with Kathryn Roberts, Kate Rusby and, later, Cara Dillon.

After lengthy world tours with the band, Seth struck out on his own with his first album “Punch Bowl” made in his brother’s kitchen. He’d also begun to write songs about the legends and folklore of the Dartmoor countryside where he was born and raised.

It was his second album, Kitty Jay, which caught the attention of both the public and the music industry as it delved into Devon’s rich legacy of legends.  The title track told the harrowing story of a maid who committed suicide when ostracized by the local community after becoming pregnant by the squire’s son, and inspired a trail of visitors to her roadside grave.

Few performers successfully manage to straddle the disparate worlds of pop and folk music but as one writer put it: “With his infectious energy, original style and natural charisma, Seth Lakeman kept his balance.”

His 2014 album “Word of Mouth” stormed into the charts earlier this year with one track, The Courier, playlisted by Radio 2. He’s also become a leading member of the “Full English” project, together with Martin Simpson, Fay Hield and Nancy Kerr, and picked up another award when it won Best Album and Best Group at the 2014 BBC Folk Music Awards.
